It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Charles (Charlie) Raymond Johnson, 66, of Louisville KY on April 21st, 2024, after a courageous battle with cancer. He died peacefully at home surrounded by his family.
Charlie was born to the late Virginia Johnson on May 16th, 1957, but he was raised by his late grandmother, Cora Mae Johnson. Charlie graduated from Iroquois High School, Louisville, Ky. in 1976. After graduation he worked several jobs before settling on a career at the United States Post Office for 32 years.
During this time, he met the love of his life Susan McClarty Johnson, and they married in 1992 on Charlie’s birthday; thus, he could never forget his wedding anniversary. Together they had three sons, who were the joy of Charlie’s life. He loved being a dad, going to all their activities, watching movies with them, and seeing them grow into men. Besides being a family man, Charlie was an avid fisherman and always had a story to tell of why he never caught his fish. In addition, he loved hard rock music and going to concerts with friends. Charlie’s greatest passion was football, particularly University of Louisville football. He and Susan were true football fans having had season tickets for many years. Charlie was a member of St. Thomas Episcopal Church. Charlie loved people and had a great sense of humor, so it is not surprising that he made life-long friends from his job at the post-office and St. Thomas Church. Charlie was always willing to help out a friend in need, and he always had funny stories about life; therefore, he will be greatly missed by all that had the honor of knowing him. Additionally, Charlie loved his dog, Lucy, a small Havanese, who slept at the foot of his bed every night.
Charlie was preceded in death by his mom and his grandmother. Charlie is survived by his wife, Susan M. Johnson, and their three sons: Blake C. Johnson, Matthew R. Johnson, and Ryan M. Johnson. In addition, he is survived by his mother-in law, Joan R. McClarty; brother-in-law, David McClarty; sister-in-law, Kyle M. Penn; nieces, Kristen Hill (Don), Nicole McClarty; nephews, Hiram Penn, Alex McClarty; great-nephew, Max McClarty; uncle, Weldon James; cousins, Debbie Cecil and her son Alex Cecil, Tony James (Lynette) and their daughter Claire James.
The family would like to thank all of Charlie’s physicians, nurses, and therapists. A special thank-you goes to Baptist CBC Group, Dr. Huber, and their entire staff. Also, a particular thanks to Hospice of Louisville and all of their staff who took such good care of him during his last weeks.
Arrangements are being handled by Stoess Funeral Home, 6534 W State Hwy 22, Crestwood, Kentucky with visitation there on Tuesday, April 30th, 2024, between 12 noon - 8:00 p.m.
